Also called buttonhole stitch when stitches are close together

Uses: straight and curved edgings, couching, laidwork, cut work, straight and curved outlines (when worked small).

Working from left to right: The twisted edge forms on the lower line. Needle up at 1, down at 2 and up at 3 with the thread looped under the needle. Pull through. Pull stitches evenly for a neat edge. Repeat, fasten down the last loop by taking a small stitch on the lower line.
