2021 Fall Retreat

Many stitchers gathered in Whiteway, NL again this fall for a few relaxing days of stitching and comradery. There were some who stayed at local establishments for the weekend and some who came for the day.

We hope to continue this event every fall.

Thank you to the organizers and all attendees who helped make this a wonderful retreat !

Fall Stitching Retreat 2019

Thanks to everyone who attended the retreat this year.

It’s that time again.  The Guild Retreat to Whiteway this fall is the 13-15 September; Friday 12 noon till Sunday 5 PM.

I have included a link to a Doodle.  Please mark the Doodle if you are planning to join us.  If you are only joining us for a day, mark that day. If you are joining us for the entire weekend, mark all three days.

It will include opportunity for personal stitching, a bit of exploring and lots of camaraderie and encouragement. If anyone has an idea and a willingness to teach a mini-workshop, that could be part of the fun too!!

The Guild will pay for the hall rental. All other costs are the responsibility of the members, including meals, accommodation, transportation and mini-workshop fee. Cost of any mini-workshop fee is to be announced.

We’d like to eat as a group at least for Saturday evening and Sunday lunch but timing of all other meals will be at individual preference. Brown’s Restaurant is right across the main road from the community hall.

If you haven’t already booked your accommodations, here’s the contact info for some places nearby the hall.  Pair up with a friend, fly solo or reach out to the guild membership to ask for a partner:

  • Brown’s Blazing Horizons (across from the community centre) 709-588-7829
  • Ocean Delight Cottages (Whiteway: 5 minute easy walk or Heart’s Delight: 5 minute drive)  1-877-588-2026
  • Legge’s Sunset Inn, Whiteway 709-588-2808
  • Doctor’s Inn (glorious isolation about a 15 minute drive) 1-877-588-2026
  • Day retreaters are also welcome. If you are only coming for the day, but plan to join in the planned meal or workshop, please contact Elizabeth so you can be added to the count.

In addition to stitching, the area’s local points of interest include Shag Rock Arts & Crafts, Drover’s Store (quilting cottons!!), Avondale Railway Station & Museum, and lots of scenery if you like to take photographs.

If anyone is interested, a visit to artist Cliff George’s studio can be arranged for Friday or Saturday.

Monthly Projects

From September to May, the guild offers a monthly project to members which they can work on at meetings or at home. The program committee will plan these projects and prepare the kits which are sold at the monthly meetings. There is a modest feel for the kits, usually $5.00. Some recent projects have included blackwork, canvaswork, long and short.

Details for the monthly projects are found on the monthly meetings page.

Edge Days

A few times each month, we book the community room at Sobeys Community Room on Merrymeeting / Newtown Roads. Edge runs from 9:30 AM until 5 PM. Come for the whole day or a few hours to add some stitches to your UFO(s) or a SIP (stitching in progress). These are great opportunities to come stitch with friends and fellow enthusiasts. Stay all day, for a few hours or your lunch break; whatever works for you. All are welcome.

Dates are posted for six-week blocks. The remaining summer dates are:

  • July 9
  • July 26
  • August 9
  • August 20

Summer Challenge 2019

Codfish Template for Summer Challenge 2019

Join us as we create a stitch sample book. Each page of the book will have a different stitch done of the same picture of a cod fish. The fish is 5 inches long and about 3 inched high, so not an onerous task. We have listed as many different stitches or stitch styles as we could think of, but there are many more, if there is one not listed that you think you would prefer to do, by all means do proceed. When you have decided what you are going to do, email me with the details of your choice and I’ll add it to the list.
